Additional Financial Discussions –
- It was discussed whether all individuals currently listed on the spreadsheet that is used to track club membership is accurate, as relates to whether everyone is paid-up and continuing to participate in club activities.
- It was discussed what might be the best approach to determine whether all listed on the membership spreadsheet intend to participate in club activities going forward, and thus should be expected to pay their membership fees. It was decided that Steve Morris would draft communications to all listed individuals, to seek information related to the intentions of those that have not yet paid dues for the year.
- It was discussed that the regular cost of club operations is now somewhat reduced from years past because it no longer is necessary to mail newsletters, etc. to membership, because email is now utilized.
- It was brought up that insurance for the Wacky Wabbit ride will be considerably less expensive this year, because of the ability now to use AMA insurance. The price for the event will be $102.00.
Wacky Wabbit Poker Run IV – (Additional discussion of organization for this event for this year)
- Date – Sunday, September 22, 2002
- Start Location – Pacific Yamaha, 1358 Pacific Coast Hwy., Harbor City, CA (half mile west of Harbor Fwy., I-110)
- Member Registration Fee - $10.00
- Sign-In – 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM
- Ride Pins – 1st 100 entrants
- Free to 1st 80 to 100 Entrants – "Motorcycle Arizona" book, by Frank Del Monte, a $10 value
- Check Point staffing – Chuck Meyer, and perhaps Joe Zezulka
- Poker Scoring – several options were discussed related to how the poker scoring could/should be done for this ride. Being completely illiterate as regards to playing poker, this writer didn’t understand anything that was discussed.
- Door Prizes – (currently have "Motorcycle Arizona" books, Cook Books, Mother’s plastic polish, some bottles of wine, etc. for prizes)
- Food – Jim and Kathy Fitzgerald volunteered to prepare/assist with food. They will also bring coolers and ice.
- Canopy – Terri Snook will bring Terry Murphy’s canopy.
- 50/50 – Leo Gastelum will sell tickets for 50-50. Volunteers were requested to sell tickets.
- Set-up & Clean-up – Steve & Josie, and ? (need more volunteers)
- Truck – Ray Pearson will bring his truck to Steve’s home to haul tables, chairs, etc. to the event.
- Route Chairman – Steve Morris
- Sign-In – Ray Pearson, Jim Close, Terri Snook, and Nadine Robbins will work sign-in. Nadine volunteered to deal with the AMA requirements related to Risk Management. Sign-in workers should be at Pacific Yamaha by 7:00 AM the day of the event.
- AMA Sanction Package – Steve Morris will request the materials from AMA on Monday that are necessary to satisfy their requirements for AMA sanctioned events, and will offer to pay for the AMA insurance for the event using his credit card (to expedite getting payment to AMA, and to expedite getting materials sent to us by AMA. Ray Pearson will write the check for the insurance and give it to Steve, and not put a "Pay To" name on it, so that Steve can put his name on it and cash it, if he does end up in fact paying AMA with his credit card.
- Desert Idea – Dorothy Meyer brought up the idea of preparing and selling deserts at the event, to raise additional income from the event. Anyone able to bake cookies, etc., please do so and bring them to the sign-in
- Sweep Rider – Jim & Rachel Close.
- Club Event News Paper Coverage – Steve has been in communication with the South Bay Daily Breeze concerning an announcement for the Wacky Wabbit event, and perhaps other future events as well.
Recent Rides –
A couple rides that took place recently were as follows:
- Chuck and Dorothy did an approximately 100 mile charity ride that was run for a single-mom family with a handicapped son. There was lots of food and drinks. The cost for riders was $15.00 per single rider, and $20.00 for 2-up riders. The organizers sold tickets separately for prizes, and for 50-50. There was approximately 130 bikes/participants.
- Larry Smith was the only club member who participated in the recent Fun-in-the-Sun ride.
Future Ride Calendar –
Discussion took place concerning rides for the remainder of this year, as well as for the spring of 2003. Some options discussed follows:
- Nov. 1/2/3 – Anza Borrego camping weekend. Leave on Friday evening, and return on Sunday afternoon.
- Nov. 10 – SCMA Turkey Run
- Nov. 16 – Port Hueneme Light House ride (also visit the Sea Bee Museum that is in the area).
- Jan. 4/5 – Ice Cycle Ride to Tonopa, Nevada.
- Mar. 15/15 – Song Dog Ranch camping weekend. Would like Larry Smith to arrange.
- Apr – Perhaps do a Death Valley ride, to visit Scottie’s Castle.
- Date undecided – perhaps do a ride to the Lompoc area, to visit the Quick Silver Ranch, where they have a bunch of miniature horses.
Of Special Note –
- The web site that Steve’s son had volunteered to do for our Chapter will soon be completed, perhaps in a month or so. The cost of the Domain Name registration is approximately $25.00 to $30.00 per year.
- The business cards that Daniel Chesney had volunteered to do for members has been designed and approved by the memebers. They will soon be completed for all members. Thanks to Dan.
