RECENT PAST RIDE SUMMARIES

February 8, 2003 – Pasadena M/C Poker Run. We had 8 bikes with 10 riders. This was Kathy Fitzgerald’s first long ride on her new Honda Shadow. We covered a variety of roads from city traffic to the San Gabriel Mountain “twistys” to country roads and Kathy did well. We were all very proud of her. She was pretty tired at the end way out in Pomona with a long drive back home but had a great time as did all of us.

NEW BUSINESS:
  • There was discussion, and perhaps consensus, to start having the club monthly meetings on the first Sunday morning of the month. Ideas were to perhaps do this as a breakfast meeting at some restaurant in the area, as well as perhaps lunchtime meetings at picnic areas in the foothill areas of the LA basin. It would seem to be a good idea to mix the two ideas (do some as breakfast meetings and some as lunchtime meetings at picnic areas), but planning is necessary at a given meeting as to where the next will be, etc. Since the next meeting would fall on April 6, the SCMA Miller’s Children’s Hospital Ride. Perhaps we will have it the at the Son Dog Ranch Camp-out the following weekend.
  • There was also discussion concerning discontinuing the annual Alternate Winners Drawing, and instead do a one-day ride, and use the money to pay for lunch for members. There seemed to be consensus for this idea.
  • There was discussion about the possibility of a group participation at the Honda Education Center Experienced Rider course in Colton. The cost is approximately $50.00, and those members that have attended this particular rider-training course before indicated that it is very good. This will need to be planned and arranged, if it is decided to do it.

50/50: Won by Scott Richardson for $13.00.

NOTE OF INTEREST! Apparently it is now legal to ride a motorcycle in the toll lane of the Riverside (91) Freeway without having to pay or have a transponder. This definitely is good news, as the Riverside Freeway is one of the busiest highways in the area.
